Building-Arts-R-Forever is an online teaching platform open to everyone and anyone interested in sharing and developing knowledge about the building arts.
Who built that? How did they build it? Why did they build it? What patterns of construction are deeply rooted in our imagination? How are these patterns exploitative? Who will build the future — and for whom?
The Building Arts are a tangled mess of institutionalized systems, which foreground the links between the politics of labor, material consumption, and ethics of architectural practice. As a mode of teaching and research, they implicate architecture in the violent history of colonialism, slavery, and immigration. Fighting the blinding nostalgia for artisanal craft and the impulse to solve societal problems with technology, the Building Arts fold action into theory by connecting architectural pedagogy to issues of race, class, and gender.
None of this thinking is original, it comes from the work of others interested in digesting piles of architectural B-A-R-F.
